The library welcomes all new students, returning students, faculty and staff to the 2011-12 academic year.   We are pleased to announce the following:

 

New Resources on JUILCAT Plus:

1)      Medici.tv is a premiere video streaming service for concert music, offering live performances, as well as videos of concerts, master classes, and documentaries on performers and composers.  See:  http://www.medici.tv/#!/about.  Medici joins our other digital media databases, including Naxos Music Library and Naxos Music Library:  Jazz, Music Online: Listening, DRAM, and Smithsonian Global Sound.

 

2)      Oxford Bibliographies Online: Music.  OBO provides annotated bibliographies written by foremost scholars on a variety of music topics.  Each entry includes links to the relevant resources.  See:

Also, news from Naxos Music Library and Naxos Music Library Jazz:

08.22.2011- Naxos Music Library is proud to announce the addition of the EMI Classical and Jazz catalog to its streaming audio collection. This vast catalog of recordings includes EMI Classics, Virgin Classics and Blue Note Records. On August 19th, more than 200 albums will be available to subscribers with the remainder of the 7200 album catalog available by the end of 2011. New releases will be added as they occur.

 

The legacy of the catalogs of these labels is made apparent by the ensembles, instrumentalists, vocalists and conductors that appear on their decades of recordings, including the likes of Art Blakey, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Evgeny Kissin, Sir Simon Rattle, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Maria Callas, Wilhelm Furtwängler, the Berliner Philharmoniker, Bill Charlap, Lionel Loueke, Joe Lovano, Jason Moran, Robert Glasper, Ambrose Akinmusire, and countless others. The documentation of great past performers as well as new releases on all three labels will serve as an invaluable educational tool to Naxos Music Library subscribers.

 

It is with great pleasure that we announce the Blue Note Records catalog is now available for Naxos Music Library - Jazz subscribers!  Blue Note has such a wonderful history of musical excellence and we hope you'll enjoy the journey through their catalog as much as we will!

 

Blue Note Records, established in New York by German-born record executive Alfred Lion and art director Francis Wolff in 1939, is a renowned jazz label that has produced a number of legendary albums including John Coltrane's "Blue Train" and other classic albums from iconic artists such as Herbie Hancock, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter and many others. The label is revered by jazz fans across the globe.

Throughout the fifties and early sixties and continuing for the next five decades, Blue Note continues to discover and launch impressive talents to a new level.

 

 

 

Juilliard Manuscript Collection exhibit

The Juilliard Manuscript Collection display case, which is across the hall from the library on the 5th floor, features a special exhibit of selected highlights from our extraordinary collection of 140 music manuscripts, sketches, and annotated editions.  On display are manuscripts of Beethoven’s String Quartet, op. 127: Scherzo Vivace movement; Chopin’s Waltz in F Major, op. 70, no. 2; the final scene of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro; and the autograph sketchbook of Richard Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schatten.    For digital copies of all of the original sources in our collection, see the Juilliard Manuscript Collection web site: www.juilliardmanuscriptcollection.org
