The bulk of the collection consists of opera vocal scores with markings in Robert Merrill's hand. Also included are a small number of musical theater vocal scores, liturgical scores for the Jewish Sabbath, and sheet music scores.

Biographical Note

American baritone made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1945, and remained on the Met roster until 1976. Regarded as one of the greatest Verdi baritones of his generation, he sang all the major baritone roles of the Italian and French repertories, with more than 500 performances to his credit. Beyond his opera career, Merrill was also a frequent recitalist, and he performed on radio and television, with occasional appearances in musical theater and in nightclubs.
